Project Final Review Meeting

In February 2014, the FieldCopter project had its final review meeting.

The consortium presented its results to representatives of the European GNSS Agency (GSA), which is managing this and other projects funded by the EU.

The FieldCopter project consists of a combination of activities in awareness creation, technological development, demonstration and business development. The project resulted in a defined service including: the platform; the payload; the software for image acquisition and for post processing; as well as a defined operational chain for service roll out. Our discussions with farmers and other stakeholders provided important insights into the potential use of UAS, both in the technical and business domains.

Mrs. Carmen Aguilera Rios, project officer on behalf of GSA, expressed her appreciation for the project. FieldCopter has shown how EGNOS and, subsequently Galileo, plays an important role in guidance and safety systems for UAVs.

The Consortium acknowledged that regulations play an important role in the timing and extent of the service roll out. But, unfortunately, that Spain and The Netherlands, the initial sector focus of the FieldCopter Service, are not among the front runners of new airspace regulations for UAS.

The project will conclude with the publication of its ‘final report’, which will contain all the Project’s achievements, results and remaining open points.
